This was a typical 80s clip together batch. It was cold, dated and creaked as the day warmed up. We replaced the windows, increased the insulation and cladding, stabilised the framing and generally lifted this home from a batch to a seaside retreat. Originally brought into the project in 2017, FAB Building was tasked with rescuing a development that had stalled after exceeding its budget and losing momentum. Working closely with the client, the project was re-evaluated and redesigned to reduce construction costs by approximately 30%, allowing it to proceed without compromising the overall vision. The result was the successful completion of a modern, purpose-built facility in 2021. The new stadium transformed an ageing, leaky asbestos-clad building with just four tables into a world-class eight-table venue, complete with international-standard flooring and lighting. Today, the facility provides a high-quality home for the local table tennis community and is capable of hosting national and international events.

This is a small 2 bedroom cottage we did for a wonderful client on a steep section. At the top was a beautifully framed view of the working harbour. While the cottage was a new build, we worked with Frobisher Interiors to create a retro character using muted colours, period wallpaper/furniture as well as framed photos of early Lyttelton to battle against the staleness of being new. We used dormer windows to fit into the small scale of the local architecture and worked hard to maximise the views and sun. As usual we maxed out on storage and insulation, both of which you can never have enough!

This boutique development of four standalone homes in Woolston, Christchurch, was designed to offer something different in a market increasingly dominated by smaller townhouses. Each home features four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large single garage, and a 5kW solar power system, providing generous family living with long-term efficiency in a high-growth inner-city suburb.
